Tips Learned So Far

I'm such a newbie at this but I'm learning the ropes fairly quick. Here are a few tips I've learned so far.

1. If Sunday comes and you see a good deal in your stash of coupons, go to the store ASAP. Because by the end of the week, you may go to the store with your coupons in hand and find only empty shelves.

2. HOWEVER, if you go to catch a good deal and the shelves are empty, go to customer service and ask for a rain check. (Tish told me about this today and I never even knew you could do that!)

3. Study up on your weekly specials and plan your attack. Or else you'll be like I was tonight and waste a ton of time meandering around the store trying to match good deals with your coupons. (This is where grocerygame.com comes in handy)

4. Really, the goal of couponing and saving money is to make your house like your own store. Shop weekly, taking advantage of only the really good deals and stocking up on the stuff that you frequently use (toothpaste, shampoo, soap, cleaning supplies, etc.) Then you don't have to go pay full price for these things when you need them. They're already in your cupboard. : )

I'm not a competitive person at all but I feel so competitive when I'm couponing. Like I'm trying to beat the system! HA! Tonight I went to the Kroger for a few groceries for the week and I felt so proud when they scanned all my coupons. Then I looked at my receipt and it said that I saved a total of $22 and some change....31% of my bill. And I thought, "Pfff, 31%? That's pitiful! I can do better than that! Geesh..." But its still $22 left in my pocket, I guess : )

I totally feel the same way when I don't leave getting at least 50% off!! (Which at Krogers is most of the time!). Of course, when I do well, I want to tell everyone about it and smirk at the ladies who walk away with a $200 grocery bill and didn't use 1 coupon or plus card!
